“How y'all feeling out there? We gon' party over here 모두 같이 (all together) sing it, let me hear you say la-la-la-la-la I am a good boy.” That was a lyric from the song “Good Boy” by the two members, G-Dragon and Taeyang, of the band named Big Bang. From the all-boy group band Big Bang, the leader is an artist who goes by the name G-Dragon, real name Kwon Ji Yong from South Korea. Some may call him the king of K-pop, which is the genre of his music. Let me introduce you to G-Dragon’s career in music and fashion.
On stage since 1994 at the age of 7, G-Dragon debuted in a group called Little Roora. After the group's disbandment, he joined SM Entertainment as a trainee when he was 8 but left for YG Entertainment; the entertainment he is currently under. G-Dragon is a rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer. As a solo artist, G-Dragon currently has a total of 8 albums. He has achievements such as a World Music Award for 2014’s World’s Best Entertainer and so much more.
In addition to music, G-Dragon started to make his mark as a fashion icon, even with his small figure. He can carry off seemingly perplexing combinations such as a Chanel women’s jacket with Japanese street wear brands (YG Family, 2020).
For his music I recommend and love Kwon Ji Yong. It’s an album titled after his real name. In this album, the lyrics show a side of the G-Dragon going through dilemmas and loneliness like an ordinary adult experiencing life. The YG Entertainment site (2020) describes the album as “…a narrative of the Human Side of Kwon Ji Yong. Let's try to forget about the glamorous G-Dragon and listen to what Kwon Ji Yong has to say.”
It is confirmed that G-Dragon is currently working on an album, but that is all we know until further information is released. For fashion G-Dragon has a collaboration with Nike, Air Force 1 X Peaceminusone and was globally released November 25th. Peaceminusone is G-Dragon’s brand, the meaning behind Peaceminusone is that humanity is always one step behind achieving true peace thus peace minus one (Peaceminusone).
